The 2019 Spring Pennsylvania SSA Owners and Managers Annual Meeting and Conference was held on April 25th in Lehigh Valley, PA at the Bear Creek Mountain Resort and Conference Center. The annual meeting and conference was attended by more than 100 owners, operators, managers, and prospective owners and 17 exhibitors, and was a great day of networking, visiting with industry leading vendors, and attending informative educational sessions. The event’s educational sessions were divided into a managers track, a track for owners, and sessions for all attendees. Registration and exhibits opened first thing in the morning, allowing attendees to get settled and start networking with exhibitors and learning about new products, technologies, and services. During the welcome and introductions, Melissa Stiles of Storage Asset Management introduced attendees to the Young Leaders Group (YLG), which provides members of this group, all forty and under, a chance to network and learn with others in their age group who are the future of the self storage industry. After introductions, Theresa Bahnemann of STORExpress was awarded Manager of the Year.
The first educational session of the day was an owners panel designed for all attendees with Alyssa Quill of Storage Asset Management, Kyle Fromin of Simply Self Storage, Michael Moyer of Budget Store & Lock Self Storage, and Noah Springer of Extra Space Storage. Following the owners panel was dedicated time for attendees to visit with exhibitors. The next educational session was on the owners track and Lonnie Bickford of Appletree Storage discussed how to navigate new and emerging technologies like a pro. At the same time, there was a session for managers with Holly Fiorello of CallPotential in which she discussed digital marketing. The next owners educational session was led by Cory Sylvester of Union Real Time and went over the state of the self storage industry through a data-driven lens. Managers learned about five ways to increase facility revenue effortlessly with Jim Mooney, Jr. of Freedom Storage Management.
In the middle of the day there was a networking lunch, sponsored by Flexospan, which provided an opportunity for attendees and exhibitors to make new connections and build upon existing relationships. Following lunch were vendor roundtables for all attendees which included First Bank Financial Centre, Flexospan Steel Buildings, Janus International Group, PTI Security Systems, SelfStorageAuction.com, StorageAuctions.com, StoragePug, and U-Haul Self Storage Affiliate Network. Next was an educational session for owners on building a better team through recruitment and training with Jeff Fickes, Regional Director and Patty Shields, Director of Human Resources, both of Storage Asset Management. The next managers session held was on the topic of online auctions and was led by Lonnie Bickford of StorageAuctions.com. After a break the day wrapped up with two sessions for all attendees. The first was a legislative update for the state of Pennsylvania with Ted Mowatt of Wanner & Associates. The last educational session of the day was a step-by-step overview of rental agreements with Jeff Greenberger of Greenberger & Brewer, LLP. The day ended with a meeting wrap up and closing remarks. Overall, the 2019 Spring PASSA Owners and Managers Annual Meeting and Conference on April 25th was a great day of networking, education, and visiting with industry leading vendors. Payment & Cancellation Policy: All registrations must include full payment. Pennsylvania Self Storage Association (PASSA) does not bill for payment or accept partial payments. Requests must be made in writing to the PASSA. Requests received by April 11th will receive a partial refund, less a $100 cancellation fee. After April 11th, PASSA will not issue any refunds, even if you are unable to attend the event. Attendees may be substituted for a registrant without an additional charge. PASSA must be notified in writing of any substitutions at least three days prior to the event.
